Some of the finest student service professionals in the nation are at Maryland - in our recreation, health, student union, and counseling programs -- to give you help and encouragement.
Brain food. That's what you need. Of course it doesn't hurt to have a little comfort food (like our weekend brunch with made-to-order omelets and Belgian waffles). Or health food. Whatever food you're looking for, it's available during student hours, which are slightly different than those of the normal workday.
The Department of Dining Services offers three meal plan options and a kosher meal plan. All three meal plans use a declining balance point system, allowing you to choose when, where and how you spend your meal plan money within three-week periods over the course of each semester, instead of limiting you to a set number of meals per week. The meal plans offer two forms of spending money, Resident Points and Terp Bucks, for use in the two large dining rooms, and on a limited basis, in more than 25 locations including the Stamp Student Union, Campus Recreation Center, convenience stores and several academic buildings. Vegan and vegetarian menu selections are available every day in the dining rooms.
Terrapin Express, an optional pre-paid debit program, can be used in all locations to supplement any meal plan.
Regardless of where you live, you will use the resources of the Department of Transportation Services. In addition to several campus-based routes that operate up to 20 hours per day, Shuttle-UM buses serve a six-mile radius of campus, taking students to Metro station, shops, restaurants and more than two dozen apartment communities. All you need to ride Shuttle-UM is your student ID. It's also easy to travel to Washington, DC, Baltimore, and local airports by using Metrorail and MARC trains.
For students living off campus, permits for campus parking are available for purchase from the Department of Transportation Services. Please click here for more information on parking permits.
