Biography:
I initially found myself becoming fascinated with the admissions process as I applied to colleges. Throughout my college career I had several opportunities to talk to prospective students about my experiences at my alma mater, and also had the chance to travel to my hometown in the northern suburbs of Chicago to talk to prospective students and their parents.
What have you learned from Maryland students?:
I’ve learned so much about the incredible opportunities students have at a large public university. I think by understanding and talking to students about the various experiences they’ve had throughout their undergraduate career, it has enhanced my own knowledge and appreciation for the university.
What do you like best about Maryland?:
I really enjoy the sense of community that is reflected across campus. Although we are a large public university, the students, faculty, and staff have fostered a welcoming educational environment, which in turn, has created a dynamic working environment which I enjoy being a part of.
What have you learned from working at a university with a diverse community?:
I’ve learned that the importance of having a diverse community on campus is essential to all facets of a university, from the academic and professional environment to the social and cultural environment. I’ve learned so much in my professional experiences at Maryland through my exposure to students, colleagues, and peers who come from diverse backgrounds that I fully appreciate and embrace the dynamics of a diverse community.
What advice would you give to a prospective student?:
Begin the process early by getting a feel for the atmosphere on a collegiate campus. The more in tune you are with various offerings at each university you visit, the more savvy you will become, thus beginning to distinguish which University will be the right fit for you.
