Uganda is a world away from College Park in almost every way. But graduating Maryland seniors Patrick Wu, of Timonium, and Kara Smith, of Kensington, see that beautiful and war-torn African country in their futures. Both spent time in Uganda during their time at Maryland. It was, says Wu, "the most life-altering experience I've ever had. No matter how much you prepare, once you've been to Africa, it's always with you." Wu and Smith are part of a growing group of Maryland students who spend time overseas, studying (1270 last year) or doing humanitarian work while they are undergraduates.
