Historic High Number of Applications Received for Fall 2009
This year we have received a record number of applications. We anticipate receiving over 28,000 applications for freshman admission for the fall 2009 semester. We are proud of the interest that Maryland is garnering from some of the nation's most talented students. From this admitted group, we anticipate enrolling a freshman class of 4050.
Spring Admission and Waitlist
We will continue to offer spring admission to a number of talented students who we are unable to accommodate in the fall semester. In addition, some of these students will be placed on our waitlist for the fall. Those students will be notified about their final decision no later than June 1, 2009. Admission to the university for the spring semester provides students with the same academic and social opportunities available during the fall. Students admitted for the spring have several options for the fall semester, including participating in community service, traveling, working or earning credits at an accredited college or university for transfer to the University of Maryland. Spring admission also gives students a unique opportunity to participate in the Freshmen Connection program offered through the Office of Extended Studies during the fall semester prior to spring enrollment.
Freshmen Connection
The Freshmen Connection program gives students admitted for the spring semester an option to get a head start on their enrollment. Coordinated through the Office of Extended Studies, the Freshmen Connection program allows students to register for up to 16 credits in courses offered at off-peak times during the fall semester. These courses consist of university requirements in fundamental studies and CORE curricular classes. A full-time advisor is available to students in the Freshmen Connection program. Participating students are eligible for state and federal financial aid, as well as opportunities to become involved in campus activities. For more information, please visit the
Freshmen Connection Web site.
Academic Achievement Program
The Academic Achievement Program (AAP) is a federally funded program designed to provide services primarily to students from families with limited income, students with a disability, and/or families where neither parent (with whom the student resides) has a four-year college degree. Students are considered for AAP whose high school performance and test scores indicate the need for additional academic support. The program provides academic support, advising, skill enhancement, tutoring and counseling during a student’s first two years at Maryland and general support throughout the undergraduate years.
