You are considered a transfer applicant if you have completed 12 or more semester hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school at the time you plan to enter the University of Maryland. Successful transfer applicants demonstrate better than average grades in strong academic courses, proficiency in English, and evidence of sufficient funds to cover all expenses. Due to space limitations, we are unable to offer admission to all students who have the ability to be academically successful at the University of Maryland.
All of the following documents must be submitted before the transfer final deadline for you to be considered for undergraduate admission:
Complete the Application for Undergraduate Admission. You may apply online, download the application form in PDF form or request an application by clicking on the Request Information button above.
Submit a nonrefundable application fee of $55 with your completed applications. If you apply on the web you may pay online with a credit card or be billed by the University separately. Our secure website is protected by Verisign. If you choose to complete the paper application you may mail your nonrefundable application fee (payable to the University of Maryland) to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Please include the student's name and birth date on the check. We accept the following credit cards: Visa, Mastercard and Discover. We regret that we cannot honor debit cards or cash.
Request that an official copy of all of your college transcripts be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by all former college(s). These must be in native language with certified English translations. A final official transcript must also be sent upon completion of any courses in progress. Please note that all offers of admission are contingent on satisfactory completion of any work in progress between the time of the application and the time of the enrollment. The University of Maryland accepts transfer credits taken only from regionally accredited institutions. The acceptance of credit will be determined by Maryland's Transfer Credit Center after an offer of admission is extended. If admitted to the University, applicants must also provide course descriptions information, translated into English, for all international coursework completed. Course descriptions may come either from an undergraduate catalog or from course syllabi. Please send all course descriptions to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
If you have completed fewer than 30 semester or 45 quarter hours, request that an official copy of your high school transcript, as well as SAT I and/or ACT scores (if three or more years of high school completed in the United States), be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Optional: You are encouraged to submit a personal statement describing why you wish to transfer, explaining academic challenges and/or future goals.
Optional: Submit a resume or statement of academic and extracurricular activities.
Provide proof of English Proficiency. If English is not your native language- regardless of your citizenship-you must provide the university with verification of your proficiency in English. Scoring 480 or higher on the critical reading of the SAT I will exempt you from this requirement. All others should have an official report of their scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the appropriate application deadline.
Certification of Finances, including supporting documents that demonstrate support of U.S. $38,615 per year
Photocopies of I-94 Arrival/Departure Record, visa stamp, and current I-20 or DS2019 form.
Note: Submission of the application indicates a serious interest in applying to the University of Maryland. Students no longer interested in being considered for admission should submit a written request to cancel their application.
