Applying as an International Student
The University of Maryland seeks to enroll international students who demonstrate strong academic performance with records suggesting potential for success at Maryland. Undergraduate admission is competitive and is most often offered to applicants whose academic credentials indicate marks of "very good" to "excellent."
The following instructions and forms are designed for applicants currently holding or intending to seek an F-1 Student or J-1 Exchange Visitor visa to study in the United States. All other non-immigrant visa holders (including A, E, G, H, I, and L), permanent residents, and U.S. citizens who wish to apply for undergraduate admission should follow the regular application instructions for freshman or transfer admission.
- Freshman Applicants
- Currently enrolled secondary school students and students who have completed fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school at the time they plan to enter the University of Maryland are considered freshman applicants. - Transfer Applicants
- Students who graduated from high school and subsequently completed at least 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours during a regular term (this excludes summer school) at a regionally accredited college or university are considered transfer applicants.
