No matter where you live, you will have the opportunity to become an active member of the University of Maryland community.
Residence Hall Housing: New freshmen entering the university each fall are guaranteed residence hall housing, as long as their requests are made by May 1. To request residence hall housing, complete the housing and dining online form. You may submit your housing request along with or separate from your enrollment confirmation. Students are assigned to rooms in the order in which requests are received. Preferences for roommates, areas of campus, specific buildings, etc. will be taken into account. For best consideration, all preferences should be submitted to reslife@umd.edu as soon as possible. Room assignments and roommates’ names and contact information are posted online at www.resnet.umd.edu/Housing.html about three weeks before the move-in period each semester. Residence hall housing is renewable for a second year, and typically for a third year, for students who enter the residence halls as freshmen.
For more information about residence hall housing, please visit www.resnet.umd.edu.
Students admitted for the Spring Semester: Unfortunately, there is no residence hall housing guarantee for freshmen entering the university in the spring, but most students do get residence hall housing by their first day of classes. There are numerous options available for nearby off-campus housing which can be shared with other students.
Transfer Students: On-campus housing is not guaranteed for transfer students. If you are interested in living in the residence halls, you should Request Housing and Meals as soon as possible. All housing requests are initially placed on a waitlist. If space becomes available, even into the early weeks of the semester, students can be moved off the wait list and assigned a room and roommate.
Off-Campus Accommodations: Visit the Off-Campus Housing Services office online or in person to begin your search for housing. You can use online tools like OCH 101 to look for available options and Roommate Finder to create a personal profile and search for others with similar housing needs and interests.
The Department of Dining Services offers plans to suit every appetite and every schedule. Classic plans accommodate those living in on-campus residence halls, optional plans cater to students living in nearby apartments and houses, and add-on plans meet the needs of students with large appetites or a desire for even greater convenience and flexibility. Only students who live in traditional and suite-style residence halls where no cooking is permitted are required to have dining plans.
Dining Services offers many options for dining on campus including an array of culinary stations, restaurants, cafes and quick food locations, franchises, convenience shops and more. Vegan and vegetarian selections are available every day in the dining rooms and other locations. The Maryland Hillel also offers a kosher meal plan.
Dining plans use a declining point balance system. To learn more about specific plans, how the work and how much they cost, please visit the Dining Services website.
